Wildlife Protection Program

Bats| Raccoons| Skunks|  Squirrels|Groundhogs| Foxes| Wolves| Coyotes| Muskrats| Bears|

Living harmoniously with wildlife can be achieved when preventive measures are taken.  It is less expensive and less stressful for you and the wildlife to build them out! We are in the process of developing our Wildlife Protection Program which will feature important information about foxes, coyotes, wolves, and bears and advice from wildlife experts about how we can live in harmony with these wonderful creatures.

We do not trap and relocate wildlife as part of our regular service offerings.  Studies have shown that when raccoons and other animals that are trapped and relocated more than a very short distance away, are at risk of dying in territorial disputes or from other habitat change factors.  However, if the animal is at risk or in need of rescue, we will assess the situation to determine whether removal is the most appropriate course of action for the animal's safety and well being. This service is at our discretion, and based on many factors.

We respect all wildlife and you will find our expert advice about exclusion techniques invaluable. We can help you to humanely encourage wildlife to leave voluntarily thus saving everyone a great deal of stress, and wear and tear on your home.

We should  all be able to enjoy wildlife without worrying about them moving into our homes. In most cases, if there were not an opportunity for them to enter, they would not be there. They are simply seeking the same things we need to survive like shelter, warmth, food and water. Keeping our house and cottage in good repair will go a long way to discouraging entry by raccoons and squirrels.

Please observe the following tips and key areas to secure, to prevent wildlife from being a nuisance around your home or cottage:

  • Chimneys should be capped as they invite intrusion by raccoons and squirrels - birds may also fall in and get trapped at the bottom. If you are in our area and you suspect an animal is trapped or otherwise in distress and cannot leave the chimney on its own, call our Customer Service Hotline at 426.1903.
  • Plumbing vent pipes are vulnerable when not sealed. If animals do go in seeking a nesting site they may become stuck and require expert extrication to save their lives - and obstruct the plumbing system.
  • Kitchen and bathroom exhaust vents make ideal places for birds, mostly starlings, to build their nests. If this should happen, call our office for service after the birds have all left the nest. Baby birds fledge after a few weeks and the nest will be vacated. We can then safely remove all the nest debris, treat for parasites, and seal the vent to prevent further access. If you cannot wait because mites are appearing inside your kitchen or bathroom, call us and we will remove the nest with babies and place in an area for mother to continue to care for them. We then treat the vent for parasites and seal so that birds cannot re-enter. Our service is guaranteed!
  • The roof and fascia offer an opportunity for wildlife to gain entry and should be sealed at the edges.
  • Roof-soffit intersections should be screened.
